Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership
The Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership is made possible by a one million dollar matched-funds grant from the U. S. Department of Education.
This five-year grant is facilitating partnerships between Governors State University and the local high school districts for the purpose of improving teacher preparation of GSU's teacher candidates while providing opportunities for educational enhancements in the local high schools.
To date GSU is partnered with Bloom Township, District 206; Rich Township, District 227; and Crete-Monee, District 201-U. In addition to providing real world classroom teaching experiences - microteaching and mentoring - the TQE Grant provides scholarship monies for qualified applicants to one of GSU’s Secondary Education programs: biology, chemistry, English, or math.
Teacher Quality Enhancement Recruiting Grant
In addition to the TQE-P Grant, GSU is also the recipient of a three year, 1.4 million dollar matched funds recruiting grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant period is October 1, 2007 - September 30, 2010.
This three-year grant offers $500,000 in scholarship monies for qualified applicants to GSU's Secondary Education programs in biology, chemistry, English, math, and students enrolled in the Alt-Cert cohort group. This grant also provides funds for books, fees, and childcare at the GSU Family Development Center.
The goal of the grant is to recruit and train qualified teacher candidates into these program who will then teach in high need schools in Chicago and the suburbs.
