FAQ's
What is the Student Enrichment Program (SEP)?
The Student Enrichment Program is a university funded program/research study that offers services to help participants succeed in college and graduate in a timely manner. Our purpose is to increase retention and graduation rates among GSU students. The free services include individualized learning and study skill assessment, supplementary academic advising, professional development opportunities, and college success workshops.
Can everyone participate?
SEP serves traditionally under-served students. Students must be low-income (determined by the Office of Financial Aid), first-generation college students (neither parent graduated with a four-year degree), and/or be on Academic Probation I or II.
Does university admission equal SEP admission?
No, being in the SEP is an educational opportunity. SEP serves only a limited number of students.
Why should I become a participant?
SEP provides a personal academic support system through graduation. The program can help you build on your strengths and address areas of concern. As a participant, you will learn about your personal learning skill, additional university services, and opportunities not readily available to other students on campus.
If I join SEP, what am I required to do?
Students are required to use certain services based on our program assessments. We have a process that includes a learning assessment, which further breaks down both need and ability to benefit from the program. Participants are expected to be committed to earning a degree and taking advantage of the SEP services to meet academic needs.
Can SEP help with the transition to GSU?
Yes! SEP offers a variety of supportive services for new and continuing GSU students. SEP also makes the transition smoother by offering one-on-one meetings as well as workshops on managing your time efficiently, understanding your degree requirements, financing your education, planning your life after your degree, and many other topics.
Why SEP? I’m a good student.
SEP offers a personalized learning and study assessment to more effectively increase your academic performance. SEP monitors your grades to ensure your academic goals will be met. SEP offers student engagement and professional development opportunities that will increase your opportunity to network.
I would like to meet more students like me. How can SEP help?
SEP offers connections to Career Service, student organization and clubs, professional development opportunities, and mentorship to increase the student’s learning experience.
I have declared a major, but I am not sure it's right for me. Can SEP help?
Absolutely! SEP offers students supplemental academic advising and planning. SEP can help you determine the program that best suits your interests, strengths, and long-term plans. SEP can also help you map out which courses to take and when to take them.
Does it cost money to join?
No - everything in the program is free!
How long can I be in the program?
Until you graduate, or a minimum of two semesters.
