Monthly Announcement - October 19, 2012
Dear Alumni,
This is my favorite season - the leaves are changing. And so is GSU. The new science wing renovation is coming along wonderfully - see the link below to go on a virtual tour.
GSU welcomed its first class of GSU Promise and Dual Degree Program (DDP) students this fall. And we are now busy planning for the arrival of our first freshmen class in 2014. This includes the building of our first phase of dormitories, with a groundbreaking planned for this spring.
The Alumni Association has announced the formation of a new Alumni Association Scholarship. If you would like to donate toward this new scholarship, please call me at 708.534.7892.
No matter how you decide to stay connected - joining clubs, attending lectures and events on campus, participating in an alumni activity - GSU has something for everyone. Tell us what you've been up to. We love to hear from you. Stay connected with your alma mater and get involved.
For more information, call the Alumni Relations Office at 708.534.4128. Feel free to visit the alumni website to view past editions of the e-connections newsletter and our annual print newsletter, Alumni Connections and to get up-to-the-minute details.
Sincerely,
Cheri Garey Director of Alumni Relations

GSU Wind Turbine Marks First Year
Today is the one-year anniversary of the start-up of GSU's magnificent wind turbine.
David Stone, associate vice president for Facilities Development and Management, said the turbine has produced 121,640 kilowatt hours of energy during the past year, or enough to annually power about 12 Illinois households.
Just as importantly, Stone added, GSU has prevented the release of 129,000 pounds of atmospheric carbon dioxide through the use of renewable wind energy.
The wind turbine was built with the assistance of a $153,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
