Dear Alumni,
Now that the heat wave has broken, we're venturing outside with several of our upcoming events. There are a few tickets still available for this Saturday's Alumni Air and Water Show Cruise. This is a great way to spend the afternoon. Don't have your sea legs? Maybe baseball is your passion. Join us for our Alumni Day at the White Sox game September 25.
The Alumni Association has a lot of activities coming up and there are numerous ways you can stay connected to your alma mater. Read on and you will see what's happening at GSU over the next few months.
There is also a lot of Alumni Club activities taking place. As a GSU alumni, you are welcome to join as many of our Alumni Clubs as you like, free of charge. | Only a few tickets remain for the Alumni Air and Water Show Cruise - August 20 |
Join the Alumni Association for a delicious buffet lunch on the Mystic Blue cruise ship, departing from Navy Pier. Enjoy the Chicago Air and Water Show on deck or stay inside and enjoy the entertainment provided by the cruise DJ. Boarding is at 10 a.m. and cruise time is 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The ticket price includes admission onto the boat and a full buffet, including great salads, entrees, sides and desserts, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. | Batter up! Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals - September 25 |
Join the Alumni Association and fellow alumni for fun afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. Cheer on the White Sox as they take on the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, September 25. Game time is 1:10 p.m. Seats are in Section 111. Ticket price is $48 per person. Call the Alumni Office at 708.534.4128 to reserve tickets by phone or mail the Ticket Order Form.

| "Thriller - The Legend Continues" - Tribute to Michael Jackson - October 1 |
Join the Alumni Association for an exciting theatre and after party event featuring Thriller - The Legend Continues, a tribute to Michael Jackson at GSU's Center for Performing Arts. The evening begins with a reception followed by the "Thriller: The Legend Continues" show, featuring a Michael Jackson impersonator performing some of Michael's best songs live on stage, including:
- Man in the Mirror
- Bad
- Black or White
- Beat It
- Billy Jean
- Thriller
- ...and many more unforgettable songs

| Alumni Golf Club Update |
Annual Dave Dreschel Golf Outing: Alumni are invited to attend GSU's annual Dave Dreschel Golf Outing on Sunday, September 25 at the University Golf Club (across from GSU). Registration and lunch begins at noon. Tee off time is 1:00 p.m. The cost is $75 per person. For more information or to register, contact Hollie Campbell at 708.235.6813.
Weekly golf schedule: The GSU Golf League continues to play every Tuesday through September 6 at 4:30 p.m. at Golf Vista, 5001 W. Augusta Boulevard in Monee, weather permitting. Arrive by 4:15. Groups will be assigned. All GSU Alumni are invited to join the fun. Identify yourself as a "GSU Golf League" member to receive the special rate of $5 for nine holes (walking), add a cart for $10, or share the cart fee and cut your costs.

| Alumni Awards Nominations for 2012 Now being accepted |
The Alumni Association will host the third annual Alumni Awards program, which honors graduates who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the university. The Outstanding Community Service Award and the Distinguished Professional Achievement Award will be presented at the Alumni Dinner Theatre event on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. The Alumni Award Criteria and the Alumni Awards Nomination Form are now available. Deadline to nominate or apply for these prestigious awards is January 7, 2012.

| Song and Dance at GSU |
You have the talent. You have the interest. Now you have the two new courses at GSU to help develop your creative side.
You can dance at GSU in World Dance (DNCE-390). The three credit hour course helps you explore dance traditions from around the world through beginning level recreational dances from various regions, including Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America. The cultural values, religious beliefs, and social systems of the countries where the dances originate will also be studied. The class will meet on Thursdays, from 1:30 to 4:20 p.m.
You can sing at GSU in Choral Performance (COMS 509-4). The three credit hour course teaches you to raise your voice in a class that prepares you for sight singing and performing choral music in a variety of genres from around the world. Here is your chance to experience the joy of vocal expression. The class meets on Tuesdays, from 1:30 to 4:20 p.m.

| secretary of State Services at GSU - August 23 |
Secretary of State's Mobile Service Unit will be at GSU on Tuesday, August 23, from 1:30 to 7 p.m., in the Hall of Governors.
Services available at the mobile service unit include driver's license renewal, replacement, and corrections; State ID card renewal, replacement, and corrections; vehicle sticker sales; passenger and b-truck license plates; vehicle title and registration; parking placards for persons with disabilities; and organ/tissue donor information. In addition, vision tests and the written driver's license exam can be taken. No driving tests will be given.

| Parent University Continues Classes |
Parent University, a series of free workshops designed to enhance parenting skills, continues with classes to help parents understand and cope with issues and concerns affecting their children. Classes are conducted by members of the GSU Division of Psychology and Counseling faculty and are open to parents, students, educators, counselors, and therapists.
Workshops are held at Family Development Center and are offered free to the community through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Attendees can earn 1.5 CEUs or CPDUs. | Reading Tutorial Program at GSU |
The GSU graduate program in reading is sponsoring The Literacy Zone, a reading tutorial program for students in grades six through high school, on Tuesdays, from September 6 through November 22, from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m.
The Literacy Zone is a 12-week, one-to-one program that pairs students experiencing reading problems with teachers who have the skills to help them. Students meet on the GSU campus with certified, experienced teachers enrolled in the Master of Arts Reading Program at GSU.
Enrollment is limited and based on the number of tutors available. Students will be accepted in the order in which the completed application and registration fee are received. There is a $70 registration fee. Snacks are provided at each session. Transportation is not provided.

| Adult Learning Exchange at GSU |
The Adult Learning Exchange (T.A.L.E.), a partnership between GSU and JCC (Jewish Community Center) Chicago, is starting a new season with classes that provide the opportunity for adults to enjoy intellectual challenges and the joy of acquiring and sharing knowledge.
All classes meet at GSU on Fridays from September 9 to November 18. Morning sessions are from 10 a.m. to noon, and afternoon sessions are from 1 to 3 p.m. Each class is eight sessions long.
