Spring is in the air with the coming of the robins and Daylight Savings Time helps brighten up our days! Did you know GSU is celebrating its first-ever Spring Break this week? The semester will soon be over and registration will open March 21 for our summer term.
The Alumni Association is planning some fun events this spring. If you like to dance (or would like to learn how to dance), be sure to sign up for our new Alumni Dance Club. Classes will be forming soon. Our new Book Club will be meeting in late April. Several other events are being planned for this summer, so stay tuned for announcements in next month's e-blast.

| Alumni Dance Club News |
There is a lot of excitement about the launch of the new Alumni Dance Club. The dance club met and we are now in the process of setting up a series of dance classes in a variety of areas. We need to hear from you. Go to www.govst.edu/alumni, complete the form telling us which dance lesson(s) you want to take and the time of day that is best for you, and send it to the Alumni Office. This will help us as we pursue possible dance sites. Once we have compiled this information, we will send you a class schedule via email. So get those dancing shoes ready and sign up today!

| Alumni Associations Call for Nominations |
The GSU Alumni Association will soon be holding its annual election for the Board of Directors. This year, there are openings on the Board for the following college representative positions:
- College of Arts and Sciences, (includes CAS, IDSS, SIDL, BOG, CCS & EAS)
- College of Business and Public Administration, (includes CBPA & CBPS)
- College of Education, (includes COE & HLD)
- College of Health and Human Services, (includes CHHS, CHP, & SHP)
You must have premium member status in the Alumni Association in order to serve on the Alumni Board of Directors.
If you are interested in being considered for one of the available positions or for more information on how to receive premium member status, please call the Alumni Relations Office at 708.534.4128. The nomination deadline is April 15, 2011. A copy of the Alumni Association constitution is available on-line at www.govst.edu/alumni.

| Criminal Justice Career Fair - March 24 |
The Office of Career Services is sponsoring an employment fair for people interested in jobs in criminal justice and related fields on Thursday, March 24 from 3 to 6 p.m., in the Hall of Governors.

| New Student Central is Now Open |
GSU's new Student Central (D1400 in the Main Entry Atrium) is the one-stop-shop for many of the university's most popular student services.
The following services are now available in the new location:
- Office of Admission
- Interdisciplinary Studies Program (IDSS)
- Welcome Center/Information Booth
- Office of Financial Aid
In addition, limited cashier and academic advising services will be available in the near future.

Summer Session Registration March 21 - May 28 |
Registration for summer session is open from March 21 through May 28. Classes begin on May 23 and end on August 7. Applications for admission are currently being accepted.
Students may take classes during the shorter summer term at convenient times to fit busy schedules. Classes are generally offered Monday through Thursday leaving the long weekend open for summertime activities. A full range of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is scheduled.
GSU's summer term is ideal for student continuing a GSU degree program. It is also the perfect time for students attending other universities to take classes and fill requirements while they are home for the summer.

| "39 Steps" Celebration at GSU |
GSU is hosting a thrilling and funny celebration of the Alfred Hitchcock film, “The 39 Steps.” Key to the festivities is the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit play, “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps,” at The Center for Performing Arts for one night only, at 8 p.m. March 26.
Tickets are $31, $39, and $46, and are available by visiting www.centertickets.net or calling 708.235.2222. “Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps” is sponsored by First Midwest Bank.
This comic, suspenseful retelling of Hitchcock’s classic film “The 39 Steps,” is full of laughs and thrills as a wrongly-accused hero crosses England to clear his name, only to encounter murderous spies, an icy blonde, and other unforgettable characters. The action never stops as four actors perform 150 parts in this highly-acclaimed show.
Free film screening - March 25
The film version of “The 39 Steps” will be shown at a free screening – complete with popcorn – on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m., in Hall of Honors. Following the film, a panel will discuss the film’s comedic and thrilling aspects, and the hidden meanings in Hitchcock’s work.
Panelists include GSU Assistant Professor Rosemary Johnson, GSU instructor Tinker Parker, and The Center for Performing Arts Director Burt Dikelsky. This event is sponsored by the GSU Intellectual Life Committee.

| Discussion of Mid East Events - March 22 |
The Governors State University Honors Program is hosting “Community Teach-In: Changes and Directions in the Middle East,” on Tuesday, March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m., in E-Lounge.
The panel discussion will investigate the causes and impact of recent events in the Middle East. It is free and open to the public. Read more here.

| Friends of the Library Book Sale - April 14 |
The GSU Friends of the Library will host their next annual book sale on Thursday, April 14 from Noon to 7 (11a.m. to noon pre-sale for Friends of the Library members) in the Hall of Honors at GSU. All proceeds help support the GSU Library.
Do you have books, videos, or DVD's collecting dust in a corner or taking up room on your bookcase that you no longer need? The GSU Friends of Library will gladly accept these items throughout the year. Simply drop them off at the GSU Library and fill out a simple donation form for tax purposes. That's all there is to it!

Parent University at GSU Current Free Seminars |
The Family Development Center and the College of Education's Department of Psychology and Counseling are sponsoring Parent University, a series of workshops pertaining to families, parenting, and raising children. The workshops are offered free to the community through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and are held at the Family Development Center, located on the main campus.Upcoming workshops.

| Gender Matters Conference - April 8 |
Governors State University will host Gender Matters, an academic conference highlighting research on gender, women, and sexuality, on Friday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The purpose of the day-long conference is to bring together students, activists, and researchers in the Chicagoland and Midwest regions to discuss the ongoing role of gender in structuring society. The conference will include 16 panel discussions and more than 50 paper presentations. The research presented spans academic disciplines and historical periods. Read more here.

| GSU Summer Theatre Camp |
Young singers and dancers will have a “Glee”-ful experience at this summer’s Jukebox Musical Theatre Camp at Governors State University. Local school-age children will learn and perform songs from the hit TV show “Glee” during the four-day camp, from June 20 to 24, at GSU. The camp concludes with a one-night-only show at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24, at GSU’s Center for the Performing Arts. “Jukebox Musical Theatre – Glee”will feature songs including “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Proud Mary,” and “Lean on Me.” Read more here.
The Visual Arts Gallery is open Monday and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday, from noon to 9 p.m. or by appointment. It is located adjacent to E Lounge.

| Wafaa Bilal and Major Chicago Artists Exhibit - now through March 25 |
The Governors State University Visual Arts Gallery will host “Regard – Resist – React,” a major exhibit of artists’ creative reactions to the issues that affect them personally, emotionally, and/or intellectually.
