The United States Army Field Band
Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Since its formation in March 1946, these “Musical Ambassadors of the Army” have appeared in all 50 states and in more than 30 countries on four continents and return to The Center by popular demand! The organization's four performing components, the Concert Band, Soldiers' Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, and Volunteers, each travel more than 100 days annually.

Undergraduate Open House “Instant Decision Day” – March 27
Governors State University will host Instant Decision Day: An Undergraduate Open House on Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event is open to all individuals looking to transfer into one of GSU’s bachelor’s degree completion programs.
Prospective students are encouraged to bring official or unofficial transcripts. Admission counselors and academic program advisors will be on hand to review transcripts and provide students with an instant decision on whether or not they could be admitted to the university. Read more here.

Vacation Education Returns this Summer

Governors State Implements Semester Calendar
Beginning in Fall 2010, Governors State University will adopt a semester-based academic calendar. The semester-based calendar coincides with the academic schedules of most universities throughout the country. This updated schedule will ease student transition from community colleges to GSU, better serve returning students with families and employment, and make GSU summer courses more accessible to students from other institutions. Psychology and Counseling Annual Gala - April 17
The Psychology and Counseling Annual Gala will be held on Saturday, April 17, from 6 to 11 p.m., at the University Golf Club in University Park. The celebration is open to students, alumni, faculty, and staff of the Division of Psychology and Counseling, and includes dinner, DJ, and dancing. We will also be announcing the newly-formed Alumni Psychology and Counseling Club.
This event is sponsored by Chi Sigma Iota, Illinois Counseling Association, the College of Education, and the GSU Alumni Association. Tickets are $25 and reservations are required.

GSU Connects with Collaborative Arts Guild
Governors State University (GSU) and the South Suburban Collaborative Arts Guild (CAG) are joining forces to present “Art on Campus.” The exhibit, featuring the paintings, photography, and poetry of seven members of the CAG, runs through March 31 in the GSU main entrance Atrium Gallery and the Upstairs Gallery at The Center for the Performing Arts. Criminal Justice Career Fair – March 25
The Office of Career Services is sponsoring a career fair featuring employers in the field of criminal justice, on Thursday, March 25, from 3 to 6:30 p.m., in the Hall of Governors.
Current students, alumni, and community members interested in finding employment in the law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and related fields are encouraged to attend. Potential employers will be on hand from both public and private sectors.
While the Criminal Justice Career Fair is free and open to the public, employers who wish to participate must register and pay a registration fee.

2010 Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition – Now through March 26
GSU is hosting the 2010 Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition through March 26, in the Visual Arts Gallery on campus.
A closing reception to celebrate the show and the artists and present merit awards will take place on Friday, March 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., in E-Lounge. Up to $1,000 in awards will be presented including $300 for Best of Show. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more here.

Family Development Center News
Early Head Start at GSU
Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, GSU will receive a two year, $1.7 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to establish an Early Head Start Program at the Family Development Center (FDC). Read more here.
Calling All Infants
The Family Development Center and the College of Education are sponsoring an enriching and educational playgroup experience for infants, ages six months to two years old, and their parents. The program includes activities for infants designed to enhance physical and mental development using fun and inventive materials. Workshops for parents are also included.
Students in the early childhood degree program at GSU lead the sessions under the supervision of College of Education professors and certified Family Development Center staff.
The program is on Thursdays, through April 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The fee is $10. For more information or to register, call 708.235.7300.

Book it to the Library
During the month of March, the Friends of the GSU Library will be sponsoring a book drive. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to drop off books that they no longer need or want. Clean out those desks and closets and bring us your donations!
Simply go to the GSU Library on the second floor and drop off your donations at the Friends table across from the circulation desk. All book donations are tax deductable as allowed by law. Contact Pam Taylor at 708.235.7527 for additional information.
