Dr. Sampson is known for his leadership in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. He was ordained at the Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Presidents at Morehouse College. He is also a Governors State University alumnus.
Currently, Dr. Sampson is the Senior Pastor of Fernwood United Methodist Church and Presiding Elder of the United Methodist South End Cooperative Parish in Chicago.
