Arizona Special Event—March 28
Hard to believe when you look out the window but spring training is just around the corner! Need a great get away in March to escape our Chicagoland winter?
Join GSU friends and alumni on March 28 in Glendale, Arizona, for the White Sox – Kansas City pre-season game at 1:05 p.m. in Camelback Stadium for popcorn, peanuts and good old-fashioned fun in the Arizona sun. Tickets are $50.
We will have access to a skybox, as well as reserved stadium seats in the shade for this Sunday afternoon game. Lots of fun and laughter are expected as we meet new friends and renew acquaintances.

Doug Glanville Visits GSU—February 5
A "Conversation with Doug Glanville" will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5, in GSU’s Engbretson Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
As an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, Glanville draws on his experience as a player for the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies to speak about the culture of sports and how a life in baseball represents the human condition, complete with triumph and setbacks, passion and disillusionment.
His widely popular column, Heading Home, led to his soon-to-be-published book, The Game From Where I Stand. Read more here

Discussion on Healthcare Leadership - February 2
The Healthcare Administration Department of the College of Health and Human Services at Governors State University will be hosting a free Distinguished Lecture featuring Mr. Quint Studer, CEO of the Studer Group, who will be speaking on his book Straight A Leadership - what will it take new healthcare leaders to lead with a quality focus in times of drastic change.
The Studer Group is considered by many to be the main impetus for developing tools and techniques for healthcare organizations attaining great results. He is known as a change agent and thought leader in health care today because he so aptly links a sustained focus on service, quality, employee and patient satisfaction with growth and bottom-line results.
Mr. Studer is a nationally recognized speaker and a published author. His first book, Hardwiring Excellence, was a BusinessWeek best seller and currently has over 380,000 copies in use nationwide. Results that Last, was written for a general business audiences and in just four weeks, hit the Wall Street Journal’s best seller list of business books. His new book, Straight A Leadership, teaches corporations in every industry how to develop standardized leadership practices that ensure success will last longer than individual leaders.

Winter Walk in the Park - January 31
Join park director Geoffrey Bates for the 3rd Annual Winter Walk. The silent, often snow-covered stillness of the landscape highlights the presence of each artwork. Visitors will gather in the Hall of Governors near Terrence Karpowicz’s Art Ark. The walk will last about an hour-and-a-half, so bundle up! Sunday, January 31 at 2 p.m. Admission is FREE.
Docent Orientation Classes begin in February
This is a great way to learn more about the park, meet others who share your interest in art, and help GSU’s Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park grow its programming and volunteer base!
Docents provide the backbone for activities that occur at the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park. Knowledgeable about the collection, its history, and the prairie, docents guide our many tours, help implement events, and contribute in a real, vital manner to the growth of our organization. Dr. Terry L. Allison Named Next GSU Provost
On Wednesday, January 6, President Maimon announced that Dr. Terry L. Allison has been named as the next Provost of Governors State University. Dr. Allison will join the GSU staff in early July.
With 19 years of experience and multiple leadership roles at two California State University campuses, Dr. Allison is exceptionally qualified for the Provost's position at GSU.
Upon his appointment, Dr. Allison said:
"I am so pleased that the Provost Search Committee as well as President Maimon and her management team have placed confidence in me to serve as Provost during the next phase of GSU’s growth. I look forward to working with the GSU university community to expand access to high quality education in the region the campus serves. If you watched the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day, you know I’ll miss California weather. But having lived in New York City and the Los Angeles area, I look forward to enjoying all that America’s Second City and the surrounding area have to offer."

Substitute Teacher Academy with Resources Workshop
GSU is hosting a one-day Substitute Teacher Academy with Resources workshop on February 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop teaches new substitute teachers what to expect, what to do in an emergency, how to maintain classroom control and how to follow the teacher's lesson plans. GSU Visual Arts Gallery Hosts Juried Art Exhibition
GSU's Visual Arts Gallery is proud to host the 2010 Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition. Exhibition dates are March 4–26, with a closing reception on March 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. Award winners will be announced at 2 p.m. The Juror is Kathleen Scarboro. There will be up to $1,000 in awards, including $300 for Best of Show. Read more here
