Public Affairs Services
The Office of Public Affairs is the university's official marketing and communications unit.
The department oversees and maintains printed material production, press contact, photography, internal and external relations, and web development, among other duties. As the campus leader in image and writing standards, Public Affairs ensures clear, consistent communication of the GSU brand.
The following services are available through the Office of Public Affairs:
Ad Creation/Placement: Whether in print, on radio or television, or for the web, Public Affairs will create and place advertisements needed to market GSU, specific programs, and events. All external ads must be approved by Public Affairs.
Bereavement Notices: The office handles the writing and distribution of all university-wide bereavement notices assuring accurate, respectful handling of this sensitive material.
Copywriting: It's all about getting the word out. Marketing materials such as program brochures, posters, e-blasts, invitations, and advertisements begin with text creation by Public Affairs. Don't spend your valuable time doing our job. See us first and we will work with you and your ideas.
Feature Stories: Public Affairs has several opportunities throughout the year to submit feature articles for newspaper and magazine publication. We are always looking for good story ideas and chances to promote university personnel and programs.
GSU View: This twice-weekly electronic newsletter is the GSU community's source for news, information, and events. Please send information for publication in the View to e-matanyi@govst.edu or l-gladstone@govst.edu.
Marketing Consultation: Confused about how to get the word out? Public Affairs will work with you to promote your event or program through the many mediums and processes we manage and develop.
Monitor Messages and Public Access Channel Announcements: Brief announcements promoting an event, meeting, or performance can reach the GSU community and the outside world via the internal monitors situated around campus and the GSU public access channel.
Newspaper Clips: Public Affairs maintains files of recent newspaper clippings featuring university news. Archived press clippings are stored in the GSU Library.
Proofreading: From the course schedule and catalog, to websites and brochures, our proofreading services will make sure you have crossed those “t”s and dotted those “i”s. The GSU Editorial Style Guide also provides format guidelines to assist you in preparing a well-written document.
Photography Services: To capture the moment for internal or external use, contact Public Affairs to arrange photography services. More information is available on the photography resource page.
Press Notices: GSU news is important. Public Affairs will send a community announcement to local and regional media outlets announcing upcoming events, speakers, meetings, exhibits, conferences, workshops, and performances. Press releases concerning new academic programs, accomplishments of faculty and staff, and community outreach give GSU the opportunity to blow our own horn and inform the community. Press releases and community announcements often provide editors with ideas that can lead to additional stories and interviews. Please keep us informed of all that is news at GSU.
