The purpose of IRB is to ensure the protection of human research subjects. Federal regulation, Title 45, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 46, requires that all institutions receiving federal funds and conducting research using living humans as subjects establish and operate an IRB.
Projects which originate at Governors State University involving human subjects are subject to review and approval by the IRB.
