The deadline to order regalia for the presidential installation on November 3 has been extended to September 14. “Jostens gave us the deadline,” said Bill Nowlin, Chair of the Presidential Installation Committee, “but it is unrealistic given that this is first week of class and the first week many of us are back on campus. So we have worked to extend the deadline by a week. I hope a large number of faculty and adjuncts will take part in the procession.” As is customary with Commencement, the university will cover regalia related costs. Faculty and staff may RSVP via the Installation website.
Overall funding for higher education for Fiscal Year 2008 is up nearly $24 million. Appropriated funds for Governors State total $27.6 million, slightly down from FY 2007. Governor Blagojevich vetoed $500,000 intended for the Center for Law Enforcement and Technology, which had been added to the base appropriation by Representative David Miller and approved by the house. “We will continue to support the Center,” said Interim Provost Peggy Woodard. “The work the Center is doing is too important to let it go by the boards.”
Heading into the start of the Fall Trimester, enrollment as measured by headcount is flat. Total student credit hours are up more than three percent. Undergraduate enrollment is down more than five percent, but graduate schedule hours are up more than 14 percent.

Jan Engle, instructional designer for the Governors State University Center for Online Teaching, was recently awarded the Greenhouse Exemplary Course Program award from Blackboard, Inc.
This is the second Greenhouse Exemplary Course Program award Engle has received. She won last year for her course, Introduction to Online Learning.
Governors State University recently named Linda Mattox of Dolton as the 2007 recipient of the Robert A. Pringle Memorial Scholarship. "I am extremely honored and very surprised to receive this scholarship," said Mattox who is studying for her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. "It will help me pay for college.">>>more
