Correspondence courses are home based study programs that involve instruction by mail. The basis of each course is the study guide, which contains a list of required textbooks and all information necessary for course completion.
If you are taking a television, correspondence or online course, please visit our class support page for links to syllabi, orientations, instructor and assignment information.

Many correspondence courses have an orientation session at GSU and/or an on-line orientation to provide an opportunity for students to become familiar with their instructor(s), review course requirements, assignments and examinations. Students can usually choose either a weekday evening or a Saturday morning session. Students residing within 50 miles of the GSU Main Campus are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session.
Students residing more than 50 miles from the GSU Main Campus are not required to attend orientations. Students not attending orientations should obtain their course materials and contact their instructor for assistance.
After registering, study guides and textbooks may be purchased from or ordered by phone from Follett's GSU Bookstore: 708-534-4558 or 1-877-525-6578.
Correspondence students residing within a 50-mile radius of Governors State University will normally take examinations (if applicable) on-campus within the timeframe specified by the course instructor. Those outside of this radius will designate an appropriate proctor by submitting an Examination Request Form online. Examinations are given on-campus through the Office of Student Development (B1215). Students should call 708-534-4508 for appointments. Testing appointments should be made at least one week prior to the day that you would like to sit for the exam. The Office of Student Development is under no obligation to accommodate walk-ins.
Room numbers will NOT appear on your class schedule from the Registrar's Office. They will be posted at most building entrances and here.
Current tuition and fees are located on the tuition and fees page.
