Governors State University is committed to your success. GSU students make the most of over $51.3 million annually in financial assistance for both full and part-time study. Scholarships help support students' academic achievements and help meet the costs associated with achieving success by degrees.
GSU Foundation and Alumni Association Scholarships
The GSU Foundation and Alumni award more than 40 scholarships. Many are specific to individual colleges and programs of study. More information can be found at www.govst.edu/foundationscholarships.
GSU Promise Scholarship
The GSU Promise is a scholarship created by President Elaine P. Maimon to assist economically disadvantaged students to complete a bachelor's degree at GSU. Eligible students must be active participants in the Dual Degree Program and be eligible for the Pell Grant. To apply, students must have a GPA of 2.75/4.0. Information and application.

Dual Degree Program Honors Scholarship
This scholarship is for high-achieving, first-time, transfer students who are enrolled in the Dual Degree Program. Students must have a cumulative 3.5/4.0 GPA. Scholarship covers tuition and fees for up to four semesters. Information and application.
Latino Achievement Scholarship
The Latino Achievement Scholarship provides a tuition waiver for up to six semesters to GSU students of Latino ancestry. This scholarship may be awarded to both full and part-time students in the Fall or Spring semesters. View/download the Latino Achievement Scholarship application form.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) Program
The SDS program provides scholarships to full-time, financially needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds, enrolled in health profession programs such as Addiction Studies, Communications Disorders, Mental Health Community Counseling, Health Administration, Marriage and Family Counseling, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Social Work.
Teacher Quality Partnership
Teacher Quality Partnership is a Federal Department of Education grant to expand and refine teaching programs designed to raise student achievement and improve instruction in Chicago Southland school districts. Certification students will work with mentor-teachers in south suburban classrooms. They will be paid $30,000 during the one-year residency period, with that salary coming via the federal grant. Teacher candidates will work in high-need, low-income school districts and, after certification, will agree to teach for three years in the partner district. Minority Teachers of Illinois
The Minority Teacher of Illinois (MTI) scholarship was created for minority undergraduate and graduate students who want to pursue careers as teachers at preschool, elementary or secondary schools in Illinois. Private Scholarship Programs
Students are also encouraged to search for scholarships in their local community. Many local businesses and community groups award scholarships for college students. With all scholarships, be careful to avoid any scams. You should never have to give out your social security number or pay any costs/fees to apply for a scholarship.
