Facilitate an increase in GSU’s online course/program presence, increase faculty support and interest in online course development, and improve course quality to meet student demand and keep abreast of contemporary trends in Higher Education.

Work with Deans, Chairs and faculty to identify priorities and create more effective strategies for online course development
Work with Deans, Chairs and faculty to implement phased strategies to successfully expand online presence.
Work with faculty and chairs to develop better online assessment tools to provide quality feedback to students and codify and implement standards for faculty to assess course quality.

COTL Faculty responsible for coordination of support. Ongoing based upon strategies/timelines agreed upon with colleges.
COTL to identify tools, introduce them to faculty and provide training in their use. This will be an important criterion in evaluation whether to move to a new LMS.

As appropriate to strategies developed above. Regular monitoring against specific goals.
Also evaluate online registrations.
Monitor & document the adoption of new assessment tools in courses and provide annual report on progress.

Improve infrastructure necessary to support higher levels of online enrollment with enriched media and a reliable, high quality online environment.

Assess the infrastructure needs including servers, Internet capacity, university network capacity and streaming media support needs. Set priorities and find incremental strategies that can maximize our capabilities despite inadequate budgets.

DLMD faculty/technical staff in collaboration with ITS and guided by Vice Provost. Initial assessment by May 1, 2009.

Continue to support and guide the development of GSU’s learning management systems and provide the training and support required by faculty, staff and students to use these systems more extensively and more effectively.

Articulate needs and how well/poorly our current system meets them.
Evaluate alternatives together with transition costs, direct & indirect.
Develop strategy and timelines for implementation.
Provide additional online training experiences for faculty in LMS and online teaching/course development.
