BA Elementary Education Teaching Lab Applications 

Teaching Laboratory applications are not being accepted at this time.  Please check back according to the schedule here:

Fall semester teaching lab applications can be submitted here from March 15 through May 15.
Spring semester teaching lab application can be submitted here from July 30 through September 30.

NOTE: Locations of Spring 2011 teaching labs are not available at this time. Site information will be available when applications are available on July 30.

Requirements for Teaching Laboratory Eligibility and Placement

Note: In order to be eligible for placement in an Elementary Education Teaching Laboratory, you must have a 2.75 GPA in all program general education courses and a 3.00 GPA in all program professional education courses. In addition, you must have completed all prerequisites for laboratory placement. See table immediately below for teaching laboratory prerequisites: 

ELED Teaching Laboratory I prerequisites

  • be admitted to Governors State University
  • be in academic good standing
  • present transcripts showing a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in all undergraduate work attempted
  • present evidence of having passed the Basic Skills Test of the Illinois Certification Testing System
  • submit scores from the ETS Proficiency Profile (or MAPP) examination
  • complete a fingerprint criminal background check (see Sara Acton, Director of Field Experiences, if you have any questions regarding background checks);
  • earn a grade of B or better in EDUC 320 and 321 at GSU
  • receive a positive recommendation from the Elementary Education faculty to continue in the program
 
 

ELED Teaching Laboratory II Prerequisites

  • be in academic good standing
  • possess a GPA of 3.00 or higher on all professional education courses attempted at GSU
  • possess a GPA of 2.75 or higher on all general education courses attempted at GSU
  • present evidence of having passed the Basic Skills Test of the Illinois Certification Testing System
  • complete a fingerprint criminal background check by Accurate Biometrics (see Sara Acton, Director of Field Experiences, if you have any questions regarding background checks);
  • complete Teaching Laboratory I (ELED 301, 302, 303)
  • completed 12 hours of natural sciences as required on student study plan
  • complete general education mathematics courses as required on student study plan (not including mathematics concentration)
  • complete U.S. government, U.S. history, and geography as required on student study plan
  • receive a positive recommendation from the Elementary Education faculty to continue in the program
