1. How do I reach my advisor?
The CBPA advisors are always available to help students. Your advisor is available for meetings in person, by phone or e-mail. If you leave an advisor a message they will respond in a timely fashion. You can make an appointment to meet with your advisor by calling 708.534.4391.

2. How do I find out who is my advisor?
If you are an undergraduate student your advisor is Pam Stipanich. If you are a graduate student your advisor is Dortha Brown. You can make an appointment to meet with your advisor by calling 708.534.4391.

3. When should I apply for graduation?
You should apply for graduation at the beginning of your last semester. The application must be filled out completely, accompanied by a copy of your student progress report, which you print from your student account, remember to sign your progress report prior to submitting to the registrar’s office. Applications for graduation are due in the registrar’s office the first week of the trimester.

5. Who submits a graduation application?
Anyone expecting to graduate must have a completed graduation application in to the registrar by the graduation deadline.

6. Are there scholarships, graduate assistantships and tuition waivers available for CBPA students?
There are specific scholarships, graduate assistantships and tuition waivers available for CBPA students; visit http://www.govst.edu/cbpa/t_cbpa_resources.aspx?id=146 for details about opportunities for CBPA students.
What are Tuition Waivers?
Tuition waivers are awarded to:
3 unrestricted undergraduate students
3 unrestricted graduate students
3 restricted to graduate minority students
In the following categories:
Service Award- Significant and ongoing service to one’s community either as a volunteer or leader in an organization not connected to ones job.
Peer Advisor Award- must have a GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate or 3.25 for graduate students, possess the skills needed by the advising office, and be able to work during needed hours.
Merit Scholarship Award- available to graduate students whose undergraduate degree is from CBPA, and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
When are tuition waivers due?
Fall Trimester- August 1
Winter Trimester- December 1
Spring/Summer- April 1

7. What employment opportunities are available for my major?
If you are looking for a job-whether full-time or part-time-the Office of Career Services (located across from the cafeteria in the Hall of Governors in B1215) can assist you. They are a resource center for job seekers, providing a wide range of services available to currently enrolled students free of charge. 8. How do I find an internship?
Students receive assistance in their search for internships by working with career advisors: they also have the opportunity to review the career services internship binder or the e-Recruiting Online System. You should also check the binder located outside the advising offices (G281) for other internship opportunities.

9. How do I view course syllabi?
Course syllabi are available on the CBPA website by program. Syllabi can be found here: http://www.govst.edu/cbpa/t_cbpaAbout.aspx?id=4306 while we try to provide all current syllabi for each semester, some syllabi may not be available for preview.

10. How do I find out if a course is cancelled?
Access the online class schedule on the menu bar at the top of the page, cancelled courses will be reflected.

11. The class I need to take is full. What should I do?
If the course has met its quota, you may contact your advisor to request permission to be admitted or placed on a wait list. It is up to the faculty person teaching the course to determine if they are able to offer you admittance or wait list status.

12. Where are computer labs located?
The ACS Lab provides microcomputer facilities for use by GSU students, faculty, and staff. In addition to its open lab area, ACS offers five classrooms for credited courses and workshops. The ACS Lab is located on the second floor of the D Wing, just past the library.

16. When should I contact an academic advisor?
- If you have questions about your study plan or transfer credit
- If you are thinking about changing your concentration or adding a second concentration
- If you are thinking about changing your program or adding a second program
- If you are wondering which courses to take or if a certain course will count toward your degree
- If you have questions regarding the program
- If you experience changes in your life that may effect your program, such as change in job, medical, or family problems
In the unlikely event that you have a conflict with a course, professor, or grade, an advisor could help you decide your next step.

18. Is Financial Aid available?
Financial assistance in the form of scholarships, loans, federal and state aid, and student employment is available. 19. How do I register for classes?
If you are a GSU student, you can register for classes in one of three ways:
- Web: Log on to the Student Web Information System and follow the instructions for login and for registration. When registering online, you must enter the course and section number. Online registration is accessible 24 hours a day.
- Mail or in-Person Registration: If the student cannot register via Touchtone or online during or after the telephone registration deadlines, you may register in person at the registrars office

20. How do I withdraw from a class?
Occasionally, it becomes necessary for a student to withdraw from a class. It is critical that you review the Academic Calendar for each term for withdrawal deadlines. Withdrawals can be done online (708.235.8887).

21. Can I get a refund?
You can get a refund for early withdrawal or from dropping a course within the approved timeline. The refund period of each term is listed in the paper schedule of classes and in the Academic Calendar.
