Tuition Waivers
The College of Business and Public Administration offers its students the opportunity to apply for a tuition waiver on a term-by-term basis.
Students interested in being considered for a tuition waiver may download a copy or contact the CBPA Advising Office at 708.534.4391 or bpa-info@govst.edu. We cannot accept online applications for this award.
Deadlines for Applications
- Fall: August 1
- Winter: December 1
- Spring/Summer: April 1
To be considered for a CBPA tuition waiver, the student must meet all criteria for the award and submit a completed application form and all documents required for the specific award. Each type of tuition waiver requires different additional documentation.
All application materials must be submitted in a single packet, prior to the deadline for each trimester. Applicants who submit incomplete application packets will be notified and given an opportunity to submit complete materials prior to the deadline. Applications that do not specify which award is sought will be considered incomplete.
Service Award
Significant and ongoing service to one's community, either as a volunteer or a leader in an organization not connected to one’s job.
Submit a one-to-two-page essay describing the service activities. This service must be confirmed in writing by two leaders of the organization served by the student. Letters must be on the organization's letterhead, and clearly describe the type and duration of leadership activities, and should indicate the title or position of the person signing the letter.
Peer Advisor Award
Must have a GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate students or 3.25 for graduate students, be available to assist with administration of the Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) process and be available two Saturday mornings (to be determined) per term for open house and other events. A current resume or description of skills must accompany the application.
Merit Scholarship Award
Available only to students whose undergraduate degree is from CBPA, and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Submit a one-to-two-page page essay describing how he/she expects to benefit from a CBPA master's degree, and proof of admission into one of our master's programs. Applicants will be ranked for evaluation based on hours completed in the graduate program as well as GPA.
General Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Dean’s Award Tuition Waiver, a student must meet the following criteria.
- Be accepted as a degree-seeking student in the College of Business and Public Administration.
- Be in Academic Good Standing at the time that the application is submitted and evaluated.
- Enroll in a minimum of six credit hours during the trimester for which the waiver is awarded; graduate students may enroll in a maximum of nine credit hours.
- Maintain Academic Good Standing for the duration of the award to be eligible for any subsequent waiver.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of the state of Illinois.
- May not be receiving any other financial aid or be in default on any loan, nor owe a refund on a grant under Title IV programs.
- Must successfully complete at least 75% of course work attempted.
- Must meet eligibility criteria for the specific award sought.
- Must submit a current Governors State University transcript.
The CBPA Tuition Waivers cover in-state tuition rates only. Recipients are responsible for all fees.
