How do I view the course syllabus?

Course syllabi are available on the CAS website by program. Access the page for the specific program and click the syllabi link on the side bar. While we try to provide all current syllabi for each semester, some syllabi may not be available for preview.

What do I do if the course I need to graduate is not available?

If a course is needed for graduation and it is not offered in the current semester, contact your advisor to determine the course of action that needs to be taken. A resolution will be handled on a case by case basis.

You may contact the office of the specific program, or your advisor is also available to assist you with information regarding course offerings.

How do I find out if a course is canceled?

Access the online class schedule on the menu bar at the bottom of any page, canceled courses will be reflected. You may also contact the office of the specific program or the registrar’s office to determine if a course has been canceled.

The class I need to take is full. What should I do?

If the course you need has met its quota, you may contact the faculty person teaching the course to request permission to be admitted or wait listed. It is up to the faculty person teaching the course to determine if they are able to offer you admittance or wait list status.

Where do I find information that provides the prerequisites for a course?

The course schedule lists any prerequisites for specific courses, in addition to the GSU catalog provides a description of the course and its prerequisites.

I can’t find the room that my class is in, who do I contact?

Your printed schedule contains your classroom location(s); in addition the Registrar’s office provides a complete listing of courses that are posted off of the main and F-wing entrance. On occasion there will be room changes that occur; generally signage is posted on the door of the original room number. In the event that the room has changed and there is no notification, you may contact the program office, the division office or the Dean’s office.

What if my instructor does not respond to my call?

While the CAS faculty makes every effort to be responsive to their students, there may be an occasion where faculty is unable to respond. The coordinator of the program will be able to assist you and/or help with a resolution. In the event the coordinator is not available you may contact the Division office.

How do I find out who is my advisor?

Your original admission certificate has the name of your advisor listed, if for some reason the certificate is not available logon to your student account, your student progress report lists the name of your advisor.

How do I reach my advisor?

The CAS faculty advisors are always on the ready to help facilitate students. Your advisor is accessible by phone or email. If you leave the faculty a message they will respond back to you in a timely fashion.

When should I apply for graduation?

You should apply for graduation at the beginning of your last semester. The application must be filled out completely, accompanied by a copy of your student progress report, which you print from your student account, remember to sign your progress report prior to submitting to the registrar’s office. Applications for graduation are due in the registrar’s office the first week of the trimester.

What scholarships and grants are available for CAS majors?

There are specific scholarships that are available for CAS students; visit www.govst.edu/scholarships for a listing of GSU and CAS specific scholarships. You may also access the CAS resource page for a listing of available scholarships or contact the financial aid office.

What are tuition waivers?

Tuition waivers are available to undergraduate and graduate students who meet the following criteria:
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident status.
• Registered for at least six (6) credit hours, in a degree program.
• 2.0 cumulative GPA for undergraduate students.
• 3.0 cumulative GPA for graduate students.
• Complete CAS “Application for Tuition Waiver” form.
• At least two (2) letters of recommendation, from faculty or staff at GSU or the last school attended.
• Tuition waivers cover-in-state tuition rates only.

Note:  There are a limited number of tuition waivers available.

Where can I get an application for a tuition waiver?

Tuition waivers may be downloaded online at www.govst.edu/cas/t_cas_resources.aspx?id=545 or pick one up from the LIBA or Science division office. Turn in your completed application by the deadline date to the division office—there will be no exceptions. Once the committee has made the selections for the tuition waivers, you will be notified via mail.

Does GSU help me find a job once I am a candidate for graduation?

The university’s Office of Career Services works with both students and alumni in collaborating on career development and job searches. Students receive assistance with resumes, cover letters, interviewing techniques, networking, negotiating offers, and general job search strategies. The office offers electronic job postings, at least 3 job fairs an academic year, a host of job search focused workshops, and other events in support of students’ and alumni job searches.

If you are looking for a job—whether full-time or part-time—the Office of Career Services (located in the Hall of Governors in B1215) can assist you. They are a resource center for job seekers, providing a wide range of services available to currently enrolled students free of charge. How do I find an internship?

Students and alumni receive assistance in their search for internships by working with career advisors; they also have the opportunity to review the Career Services Internship Binder or the e-Recruiting Online system. In the Office of Career Services, staff will assist you in your search for an internship opportunity, review your resume, and prepare you for the interview, access the site at www.govst.edu/sas/t_career.aspx?id=3652. You may also talk to your instructors who may have additional information on internships.
