Minor in Biology
An undergraduate minor in Biology is offered for students who wish to supplement a major in another discipline with significant preparation in biology.
The minor will enhance prospects for:
- Employment in education, industry, or the health professions
- Admission to graduate or professional school
General Requirements
Students must meet all university requirements for a minor. In addition, students must:
1) Complete at least one course at the upper-division level; and
2) Submit transfer courses potentially applicable to the minor to the biology advisor during the first week of the trimester of intended graduation.
Required Courses (14 hours)
The following courses must be taken at the lower-division level:
General Biology I & II with labs (8)
The following courses can be taken at either the lower division or upper division level:
BIOL 3316 Plant Diversity Lecture (2)
BIOL 3317 Plant Diversity Laboratory (1)
or lower-division Botany with Lab
BIOL 3320 Animal Diversity (2)
BIOL 3321 Animal Diversity Laboratory (1)
or lower-division Zoology with Lab
Selectives (6 hours or more)
BIOL 3108 Human Evolution (3)
BIOL 3112 Human Genetics (3)
BIOL 3322 Ecology (3)
BIOL 3323 Ecology Laboratory (1)
BIOL 3360 Comparative Anatomy (3)
BIOL 3361 Comparative Anatomy Laboratory (1)

Other upper-division level biology courses may be accepted in these categories at the discretion of the advisor for the minor.
