Student Accomplishments

  • Congratulations, James E. Jenkins a Criminal Justice major  was nominated by Dora Smith to the National Dean’s List.  James will appear in the 29th Annual Edition of the National Dean’s List, 2005-2006.

  • Kudo(s) to our Art Students! 
    Iliana Angel, graduate student in painting, received Best Figurative Prize and Alonso Balderas, graduate student in photography, received a Honorable Mention in the 30th Annual Plaza Art Competition hosted by the

    BeverlyArtsCenter in Chicago.
  • The Education Channel's 2006 Independents 'Film Festival has announced that "Fading," a collaboration between GSU students Seth McClellan and Liz Fruth, is the winner in their Student category for Documentary Film.  "Fading," directed by Seth and edited by Liz, is a brave study of the triangulated relationships of a mother, father and son in the aftermath of a car accident.

    The entries were judged by a panel of industry professionals, and judged according to high standards for technical quality, creativity and artistic merit. An awards ceremony and theatrical screening is scheduled for September 15, 2006, 7:00 p.m., at the beautiful, historic Tampa Theatre in downtown Tampa .

    Seth and Liz are continue to collaborate now, along with Brian Jones,Rhonda Jackson, and other students, in an ambitious HD work in progress on Martin Luther King and the 40th anniversary of the Chicago Freedom Movement.


  • Kudos to Criminal Justice major Mary T. Skerrett her book review of Steve Bogira's Courtroom302: A Year Behind the Scenes in an American Criminal Courthouse to Judicature(Journal of the American Judicature Society) was published in the January-February 2006 issue.

  • Geneka Whitaker, a recent Social Sciences graduate, was accepted into the Master of Arts in Theology Program at McCormick Theological Seminary.
