- DNA and RNA based molecular analyses of the diversity, structure, function and population dynamics of microbial communities in environmental samples.
- Agricultural soils and wetland sediment bacterial populations. Specifically, diversity determinations and phylogenetic relationships between natural populations of nitrifying bacteria are the emphasis of my most recent work.
- Transport of bacteria through subsurface porous media.
