Assignments Do Not Accept HTML Files with Script Tag

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
When students try to submit HTML files that contain script tags, they will receive an error message that will not allow them to submit.

      Explanation of Resolution:
Blackboard is functioning as designed. The filtering for tags inside the files is controlled by a filter class. The script tags inside the file uploads are not allowed, due to security fixes implemented into the codeline of the application.

Students can add these HTML files to a .zip folder and upload to Blackboard.

  • Attendance Tool

    +

      Attendance Tool No Longer Available

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
The attendance tool is no longer available in the Control Panel > Course Tools section. This tool was created by a third party source, who no longer supports the tool. Currently for GSU's version of Blackboard, there is no replacement for this tool.

      Explanation of Resolution:
You may create a manual column in the Grade Center called Absences and set the Points Possible to 0. Make sure not to include this column in the Total Grade Center calculations. For every time a student is absent, you may increase the number by 1.

Collaborate Original Doesn't Upload Files to Whiteboard

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
Mac users using MacOS Sierra may experience not being able to upload PowerPoint files to Blackboard Collaborate Original Whiteboard.

      Explanation of Resolution:

      • Open your PowerPoint Presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.
      • Select File > Export > Save Every Slide as the File Format JPEG.
      • Select Export.
      • Each slide in the presentation will be saved as a file in the newly created folder.
      • Open the Collaborate session and select Load Content.
      • Select all the images from the newly created folder by select Command + A.
      • Select Open.
      • Highlight Import Images as Individual Pages and select Load.
      • The Page Explorer will open. This will allow you to reorganize slides, if necessary.

      Paste Button Opens Pop-Up Window

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
The paste button on the second row of the content editor does not function correctly within the following internet browsers:

      • PC: Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge
      • Mac: Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
You receive the following pop up window: Your web browser currently does not support this behavior. Use the following keyboard shortcuts instead:
      • Cut: Control + X (Mac: Command + X)
      • Copy: Control + C (Mac: Command + C)
      • Paste: Control + V (Mac: Command + V)

      Explanation of Resolution:
Once you have the material copied, click inside of the content editor to make the cursor visible. Select Control + V (Mac: Command + V) to paste.

Cannot Select Correctly Spelled Word Using Spell Check in Mac Firefox

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
Users are unable to right-click on the misspelled spelled word and select a correctly spelled word using Mac Firefox. The drop down menu with the correctly spelled word does not remain open after releasing the right-click on the mouse. This does not allow the user to replace the misspelled spelled word with the correctly spelled word.

      Explanation of Resolution:
This is a Known Issue that is planned to be fixed, but does not have a known release date.

Use a different internet browser, such as Google Chrome.

Navigation Menu Disappears When Browser Window Becomes Too Small

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
The Course Menu is not visible when the browser window becomes too small. The tab appears to the far left of the screen and Users must click the "Show/Hide Course Menu" tab each time the page reloads, or a new page is selected within a course.

      Explanation of Resolution:
Blackboard is functioning as designed. The Course Menu is automatically hidden at low screen resolutions. Due to mobile responsive design, screen sizes 1024x768 and lower will cause Course Menus to be automatically hidden. To be displayed, they have to be manually expanded. Enter a Blackboard course and click the thin vertical bar where the navigation menu would normally be. This will reopen the menu.

Students Getting Kicked Out of Tests

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
Please be advised that this entry is not related to a system issue, but is to show the cause of such incidents.

By selecting ‘Force Completion’, students must complete the exam in one sitting. A student may get kicked out and not be able to return to the test by accidentally closing the browser, accidentally navigating away from the test, accidentally refreshing the test page, experiencing a computer crash, experiencing internet issues, etc.

      Explanation of Resolution:
Blackboard is functioning as designed. We recommend to avoid using Force Completion. If the student experiences technical issues with Force Completion unchecked, he/she would be able to return to the test and resume from their last saved entry.

      Downloaded Survey Contain HTML Code

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
When downloading Surveys from the Full Grade Center, questions and student responses contain HTML code in the text downloaded into Excel.

      Explanation of Resolution:
This is a Known Issue that is planned to be fixed, but does not have a known release date.

Please contact GSU Blackboard Support to further assist.

Audio/Video Auto Playing When Autostart is Not Selected

      -

      Explanation of Issue:
When uploading audio and video and setting Autostart to No, the audio and video autostarts anyway.

      Explanation of Resolution:
Instead of uploading audio/video using Build Content > Audio/Video, build an Item (Build Content > Item) and select the Insert/Embedded Media button in the Content Editor (last row, third button from the left). Select HTML 5 Audio/Video from the Type drop down menu.
