Considering a Masters in Teaching? A master’s degree offers classroom teachers an opportunity to advance their professional qualifications and to develop skills to make them better teachers.  A master’s degree also demonstrates a commitment to the profession and allows teachers to assume positions of leadership to enact system-wide changes and solve significant teaching problems.  At the College of Education, we offer several outstanding programs for teachers that include a M.A. in Education (Non-Licensure Program), M.A. in Early Childhood Education and a M.A. in Multicategorical Special Education.


Masters in Teaching Prepares You for New Career Options


Our Masters in Arts in Education, a Non-Licensure Program will enhance your understanding of contemporary educational issues, curriculum development, research methods, and psychology and assessment as applied in schools.  GSU’s College of Education offers five specializations that provide in-depth study in: Computer Education, Curriculum and Instruction, English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education, Mathematics Education and Science Education.  Please note that this program does not lead to a State of Illinois Professional Educator License.  

For teachers wanting to advance their qualifications in special education, our Master of Arts in Multicategorical Special Education prepares you to work across the full continuum of educational services.  The program emphasizes the individual approach to the education of the exceptional learner.

We also offer exceptional training for a M.A. in Early Childhood Education that integrates an academic approach for connecting pedagogical theory to on-site field applications.  Teachers will be presented course work that broadens the comprehension of primary curricula and teaching methodology and reflects the professional standards identified by NAEYC and NCATE accrediting agencies.
