Masters in Education

Exceptional Masters in Education Programs at GSU

Governors State University offers several programs designed to enhance and facilitate your professional development as a classroom teacher or to prepare you for a role as a school administrator and leader with one of our Masters in Education degrees.  The course work is designed to broaden your understanding of contemporary educational issues, curriculum development, research methods, and psychology and assessment as applied in schools.  The GSU’s Masters in Education programs offer two degree tracks with an M.A in Education (Non-Licensure Program) and a M.A. in Educational Administration.  All students must meet the university’s general admission criteria as well as meet the specific requirements as detailed in our M.A. degree programs.

A Master’s in Education Enhances Your Career Opportunities

Our M.A. in Education, which has both Licensure and Non-Licensure Programs, is intended to increase your knowledge and prepare you to assume a leadership role with your school district.  You will gain the skills you need to expertly deal with systemic teaching issues that are inherent in the profession.  Please note that this program does not lead to a State of Illinois Professional Educator License.

The other option in our Masters of Education degree programs is a M.A. in Educational Administration that is designed to prepare school administrators and leaders to meet the demands and challenges found in an educational setting.  GSU students have the opportunity to choose from one of three areas of concentration that include: Chief School Business Official (K-12), Higher Education Administration (colleges and universities) and Principal Leadership (K-12).

Upon successful completion of the sequences, students are awarded the following licenses.  The Principal Leadership sequence leads to the Illinois Professional Educator license endorsed in Principalship.  The Chief School Business Official sequence leads to the Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in CSBO.
