Doctor of Nursing Practice Program

Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Offers Advanced Specialties

GSU’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Program is a professional practice doctorate and provides students with a choice of the following four advanced concentrations: Community Behavior, Direct Practice, Leadership/Administration and Practitioner/Educator.  We have designed the program to accommodate the needs of working nurses; students generally take two classes a semester.  The exceptional Doctor of Nursing Practice Program has been offered since 2008.  As such, the nursing faculty is currently participating in the candidacy process toward accreditation of the DNP program through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.  Students are taught and mentored by a nursing faculty that includes Advanced Practice Nurses, experienced educators and doctorally-prepared researchers.

GSU’s Exceptional Doctor of Nursing Practice Program

Our Doctor of Nursing Practice Program is very competitive with a limited number of seats.  In order to be considered for the program, students must meet all university criteria for a doctoral degree as well as the DNP requirements.  During the last trimester, students will have: completed the capstone project that is reviewed by a panel of three nursing faculty members; completed all of the degree requirements within five years of application for candidacy; and not repeated more than one nursing course with an “F” grade.

The program is designed for applicants to matriculate at two entry points: post baccalaureate or post master’s degree with a major in nursing.  The course sequence will differ depending on how students entered the program.  If entering the program at a post master’s level, you must be accepted into the graduate program but will need to provide a transcript that indicates you completed a master's in nursing program from an accredited institution.  Prior to the start of clinical courses, all students must submit evidence of nursing licensure in the appropriate jurisdiction.

Please see our Doctor of Nursing Practice Program web pages for further information regarding the application process and complete requirements.
