Communications Degree - GSU’s Exceptional Program

At Governors State’s Division of Communication, Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) we offer quality programs for an undergraduate or graduate communications degree.  The Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree assists students in developing the ability to communicate effectively and ethically in written, verbal, and visual forms within the context of evolving technological, socio-cultural, political, and economic environments.  We also offer an undergraduate Minor in Human Communication, which is an excellent choice for students entering fields where communications will play an important role in their success.  GSU’s outstanding 4-year undergraduate programs offer a superior educational opportunity at an affordable tuition rate without sacrificing professional quality.

A Communications Degree Offers Exciting Career Opportunities

Our students gain expertise in a variety of media and communication areas and are prepared to work in a global environment by developing an understanding and respect for diversity and intercultural differences.  In addition to the required communications degree curriculum, students have a choice of advanced concentrations in advertising and public relations, journalism, filmmaking and multimedia or human communication.

The course work provides students with both theoretical and practical courses that prepare them for exciting careers or to pursue advanced graduate studies.  Students can also get real-world experiences with internship opportunities in-and-around the Chicago area or with the university's division of Digital Learning and Media Design.  Upon graduation, students enter challenging careers in advertising, public relations, consulting, mentoring, customer service, human resources and training, media management, media writing, public affairs or TV production/directing in network and cable systems.

You will find that GSU has a highly diverse student body that is made up of individuals from all backgrounds and ages.  Located in the heart of Chicago’s Southland, we are an easy commute with a Metra station and I-57 and I-80 nearby.  Furthermore, in our efforts to provide flexible, adult-centered education, we now offer the opportunity to pursue a communications degree at the Triton College River Grove Campus.
