A biology degree can open up many different career paths and Governors State University offers excellent programs in both undergraduate and graduate studies.  A student opting to enter the biological sciences as an undergraduate will find course work that provides a strong foundation in the basic concepts of molecular, organismic and population biology as well as receive training in laboratory skills.  For graduate students, GSU’s Master of Science in Environmental Biology offers a spectrum of environmental biology from toxicology, physiology and ethology to population and community ecology, emphasizing the applied aspects of these disciplines.

At GSU we offer two excellent undergraduate biology degree programs, a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a B.S. in Biology, Teacher Education Concentration.   Our programs prepare students for careers in medicine, agriculture, environmental studies and the teaching profession and utilize the latest technologies in newly renovated labs.

Courses are taught by an extremely talented faculty who combines real-world field experience with the most up-to-date research and innovative teaching methods.  Also class-sizes are kept small to give students personalized attention.  Moreover you will find our programs have the most affordable tuition rates of any 4-year university in Illinois while still maintaining the highest professional quality.  

The Teacher Education Concentration biology degree is the way GSU is working to help address a national shortage of science teachers, including biology teachers as indicated by the U.S. Department of Education.  The program offers an extensive background in biology and leads to the initial secondary high school license in biology.  Students learn how to teach biology sciences to the next generation of upcoming scientists, researchers and environmentalists.
