Before students commit to an art program, one of the most frequently asked question is, “What can you do with art degree?” The reality is that an undergraduate degree in art offers students a wide range of challenging career opportunities that include jobs in education, business and industry as well as an independent artist.
As an art student, you will develop a strong work ethic and self-discipline that can help you to succeed in many fields. Also students will be pleased to learn the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of artists and related workers is expected to grow 12 percent over the next several years.
What Can You Do with an Art Degree? Discover a Range of Careers
Since the course work for a B.F.A in Art is comprised of an overwhelming percent of visual arts classes, it is a professional degree for artists. As such B.F.A. graduates may work independently and display and sell work through art galleries or studios. Artists also enter careers as commercial artists, book designers, illustrators, advertisers, publishers, curators or graphic designers.
In some cases artists work with art organizations in communications or fundraising while others may work as educators in a variety of art programs. Artists can also use their communication skills to become art critics for magazines or websites and even take their presentation skills to become event planners or art supplies sales representatives. Another option is to do freelance work.
GSU offers a B.F.A. in Art, a M.A. in Art, and minor in art. All art programs are part of the Division of Communication, Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) in our College of Arts and Sciences.
