The following scholarships are currently available for students enrolled (or enrolling) in the College of Business and Public Administration for the Fall, 2013 term. Eligibility varies. Application Deadline:  Must be received by June 20, 2013.

Martin Anthonisen Scholarship  

Award:                                 One at $500 

Eligibility:  

  • Enrolled in GSU’s Finance degree program
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Returning adult student with financial need
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 words) discussing reasons for choosing a career in finance, and indicating financial need.

American Logistics Association Endowed Scholarship  

Award:                                 Two at $1,000 

Eligibility:  

  • Undergraduate and graduate CBPA students in pursuit of a career in logistics
  • Must be a veteran or active in the military or a federal civil service employee, or be a dependent of a veteran with an honorable discharge or a dependent of a federal civil service employee.
  • Must also be a member of a household within a 50-mile radius of Chicago.

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 words) covering observance of restrictions, experience in logistics, and academic/career aspirations in logistics-related field.
  • Two letters of recommendation from a GSU faculty member and/or administrator, or from employment supervisors

Ronald Bean Community Service Scholarship

Award:                 One at $500 

Eligibility:  

  • Degree seeking in good academic standing at GSU 
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Demonstrate engagement in community volunteer services. 
  • United States citizen.

Documentation Required: 

  • Biographical essay (500 to 1,000 words) demonstrating a history of and desire to continue volunteering in the community.    
  • Two letters of recommendation from a volunteer organization. 

CBPA Student Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship 

Award:                 Two at $1,000 

Eligibility:  

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student in the College of Business and Public Administration
  • Completed minimum of twelve graded hours at GSU
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in minimum of 6 credit hours
  • US Citizen and resident of Illinois

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 words) discussing commitment to school and community service as well as leadership qualities
  • Two letters of recommendation from CBPA Faculty members attesting to service commitment and leadership qualities

Dr. Curtis J. and Mrs. Gina Crawford Endowed Scholarship in Business  

Award:                                 Three at $1,000 

Eligibility: 

  • Degree seeking student pursuing a business career
  • Preference given to MBA students, but undergrads will be considered
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Financial need will be considered but not a determinant.

Documentation Required:  

  • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) documenting work experience (if any), commitment to the field, career plans, reason for choice of major, and qualities that prove eligibility, etc.
  • A letter of recommendation from a GSU faculty member or administrator.

Dr. Lowell W. Culver Fellowship in Public Administration  

Award:                                 One at $500

Eligibility:  

  • Must be a graduate student in Public Administration
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in minimum of 6 credit hours

Documentation Required:  

  • Biographical essay (500 words) addressing how an MPA from GSU will be a benefit to a career in the public sector. Finalists must show promise in their selected career.

Donald Dolan Endowed Business Scholarship  

Award:                                 One at $500

Eligibility:  

  • Undergraduate or graduate
  • CBPA students seeking a degree in business administration.
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Good academic standing at GSU or prior school
  • Financial need is a criterion
  • United States citizen and resident of Illinois

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 words) discussing career aspirations in the field of production and manufacturing.

First Midwest Bank Scholarship 

Award:                 One at $250 

Eligibility:  

  • Graduate of Joliet Junior College or South Suburban Community College
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Undergraduate degree seeking student in good academic standing at GSU
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Financial need may be considered, but is not a requirement.  

Documentation Required: 

  • Essay (500-1000 words) describing any personal information, academic, professional, or philanthropic goals that the applicant deems pertinent. 

$100 Follett-GSU Textbook Voucher 

Award:                                 Thirty at $100 (Follett Gift Card) 

Eligibility:  

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 for undergraduates or 3.25 for graduates
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (300 words) outlining how you intend to use your GSU degree.

Lorraine Fontana Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Award:                                 Three at $1,000 

Eligibility: 

  • Degree seeking student in the College of Business and Public Administration or College of Arts and Sciences
  • Majoring in Management Information Systems, Accounting, Finance or Information Technology 
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, in good academic standing
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling)in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • U.S. Citizen

Documentation Required: 

  • Essay (500 words) describing your career goals and how this award will impact your education.

Great Lakes Bank Endowed Scholarship  

Award:                                 Five at $1,000 

Eligibility:  

  • Graduated or transferred from Prairie State College, South Suburban College, Moraine Valley Community College, or Joliet Junior College.
  • Enrolled at GSU in a major in one of the following: College of Health and Human Services, College of Education (Division of Education only) or College of Business and Public Administration (Division of Accounting/Finance/MIS or Division of Management/Marketing)
  • Undergraduate or graduate student
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 words) indicating how you will use your degree in the southland metropolitan region, which includes south Cook and Will counties.

Donald W. Hansen Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Award:                                 Two at $1,200 

Eligibility:  

  • Undergraduate or graduate student
  • Minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Minimum 15 hours of graded work at GSU within the two previous years.

Documentation Required: 

  • Essay (500 words) describing your academic excellence and leadership abilities.
  • Letters of recommendation which attest to your academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

Jassac Charitable Foundation Scholarship Honoring Lorine S. Samuels 

Award:                                 One at $500 (Follett Gift Card) 

Eligibility:  

  • Must be an undergraduate degree seeking student
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 from GSU or most recent school
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling) in a minimum of six credit hours
  • African American student preferred

Documentation Required: 

  • Essay (500 words) outlining your career aspirations.

Manilow Scholarship for Students Who Achieve Intellectual Excellence

Award:                                 One at $500 

Eligibility: 

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in any field
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and determination to complete their degree.
  • Financial may be considered

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 to 1000 words) describing your candidacy and career goals and how your degree will benefit your career. Include a brief bio describing your educational and employment history and accomplishments as they relate to career goals.
  • Letter of recommendation from a GSU faculty member or administrator may be submitted.

Master of Public Administration Scholarship

Award:                                 One at $500 

Eligibility:  

  • Degree seeking student enrolled in the MPA program at GSU. 
  • Good academic standing with a minimum 3.70 cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Have at least 21 hours of earned credit in the MPA Program at GSU

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (1 or two pages) describing how he/she expects to benefit from a Master’s in Public Administration degree.

Francisco Montalvo Endowed Scholarship

Award:                 One at $500 

Eligibility:  

  • Must be a degree seeking student enrolled in the Governors State University;
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling) in a minimum of six credit hours and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher;
  • Hispanic or Spanish speaking student preferred;
  • Must have financial need as evidenced by the current FASFA; and
  • Preference given to a student with interest in labor/union rights.

Documentation Required: 

  • Essay (500 words) describing reasons for career choice.

Donald and Helen Morrison Endowed Scholarship in Business 

Award:                                 Five at $1,000 

Eligibility:  

  • Enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration in a major that will prepare him/her to assume an entrepreneurial role in business or industry
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student in good academic standing at GSU
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling)in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • US Citizen and Illinois resident

Documentation Required: 

  • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) describing education and work experience, career goals, and how you plan to make a difference in the world.
  • Letter of recommendation from the dean, division chair, or a faculty member testifying to commitment and capability for entrepreneurship is required.

The Wilbur L. Morrison Endowed Scholarship 

Award:                                 Six at 1,000 

Eligibility:  

  • Course of study must be leading to a business degree.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling)in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • US Citizen and Illinois resident

Documentation Required:  

  • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) indicating education and work experience, along with reasons to be considered for the award.
  • Letter of reference from dean, division chair or faculty member detailing student’s commitment to and/or experience in retailing.

Scholarship for Finance or Accounting Students

Award:                                 Six at $4,000 ($2,000 Fall and $2,000 Spring) 

Eligibility:  

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting or a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.
  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing at GSU
  • Must be enrolled (or enrolling)in a minimum of 6 credit hours
  • Financial need is a criterion

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (500 to 1,000 words) explaining your definition of ethical behavior as it relates to the finance/accounting fields.

Rich Township Community Scholarships 

Award:                                 Eight at $500 

Eligibility:  

  • Must live or work in Rich Township, Illinois
  • 22 years of age or older
  • Graduate or undergraduate degree seeking student at GSU
  • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in at least 6 credit hours
  • Rich Township officials or employees, or family members of officials or employees are not eligible.
  • Preference is given to the a) Spouse of Military Reservist called to active duty; b) Single parent in the process of completing degree requirements; c) Recently unemployed person in process of training for a new career; or d) Veterans whose benefits do not cover textbooks.  This is not a requirement.

Documentation Required:  

  • Essay (300 -500 words) outlining their career goals.  Essay should include a description on how you fit into one or more of the above preferences, if applicable.
