Dear Alumni,
Campus is bustling with our students returning for the fall semester. Adding to the excitement is the announcement that GSU will soon break ground on the renovations to our E and F wings and science labs! A ground-breaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the F-wing Atrium. All alumni are invited to attend.

Dr. Martha J. Kanter, Under Secretary of the United States Department of Education, praised GSU's Dual Degree Program, at Success by Dual Degrees: Meeting the President's 2020 College Completion Goal, a higher education rally hosted by GSU President Elaine P. | Going, going, (almost) gone -Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals - September 25 |
Join the Alumni Association and fellow alumni for fun afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. Cheer on the White Sox as they take on the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, September 25. "Thriller - The Legend Continues" - Tribute to Michael Jackson - October 1

Join the Alumni Association for an exciting theatre and after party event featuring Thriller – The Legend Continues, a tribute to Michael Jackson at GSU's Center for Performing Arts. The evening begins with a reception followed by the show, featuring a Michael Jackson impersonator performing some of the King of Pop's best songs live on stage, including:

- Beat It
- Billy Jean
- Thriller
- ...and many more unforgettable songs

| Alumni Awards Nominations for 2012 Now being accepted |
The Alumni Association will host the third annual Alumni Awards program, which honors graduates who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers should be recognized by the Alumni Association. The Outstanding Community Service Award and the Distinguished Professional Achievement Award will be presented at the Alumni Dinner Theatre event on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. The Alumni Award Criteria and the Alumni Awards Nomination forms are now available. Deadline to nominate or apply for these prestigious awards is January 7, 2012.

| CenterPoint to showcase GSU Alumni Entrepreneurs |
November 14 to 18 is Global Entrepreneurship Week. Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare. www.unleashingideas.com
As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations, CenterPoint wants to showcase/publicize GSU Alumni Entrepreneurs. They plan to create posters with pictures of alumni and their companies, which will be located around the University. The same information will be added to their electronic notice board they are developing that will be a part of their website. What a great way to promote your business!
If you would be interested in you and your company being promoted in this way, please contact Hilary Burkinshaw, Director of CenterPoint at GSU. You can email her at hburkinshaw@govst.edu.
Information that will be required: Name of owner (must be an alumni), name of company, GSU degree and graduation date, a photo of the owner/business/both, information about what your business does, a reason for choosing to become an entrepreneur, and the best thing about being an entrepreneur. (CenterPoint would be happy to assist interested parties with photographs, write ups etc.)

| Alumni Golf Club Update |
It is time to dust off your clubs and get your swing back for the Second Annual GSU Dave Drechsel Golf Outing. This friendly competition will be held on Sunday, September 25, at the University Golf Club, 23520 Crawford Avenue, University Park.
All GSU alumni, faculty, staff, and their family members are invited to join the fun. The afternoon begins at noon with a shot gun start for 18 holes of golf. The festivities continue with a dinner and awards presentation.
Cost of the event is only $75 per person, which includes all fees, a golf cart, and dinner. The golf outing is sponsored by the GSU SPIRIT Committee.

The Office of Career Services is hosting a Business/Communications/Administration Career/Internship Fair on Thursday, October 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Hall of Governors at GSU. (Confirmed companies to attend: Glick & Associates, Milner Broadcasting Enterprises, Western Southern Financial Group, and First Midwest Bank)
If you are looking for a job–whether full-time or part-time, or an internship–the Office of Career Services (located in A1120) can assist you.
