Alumni Awards

The Governors State University Alumni Association is sponsoring the 2009 Alumni Awards program.

The Alumni Awards honor graduates who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the university.

Two awards will be presented at our 40th Anniversary Celebration on November 7, 2009.

Criteria for Nomination

  • Alumni can self-nominate themselves.
  • Nominees must be graduates who have received at least one degree from Governors State University.
  • Nominees must be able to be contacted with current home/business information.
  • Nominees, if selected, must be available to attend the award ceremony on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the 40th Anniversary Celebration at Governors State University.
  • Alumni are ineligible if they are:

    • Full-time employees of the University.  (Alumni who are adjunct faculty members/part-time staff may be nominated.)
    • Currently serving on the GSU Alumni Association Board of Directors or Selection Committee.
    • Elected officials or candidates for any public office.

Alumni Award Categories

Outstanding Community Service Award

This honor is bestowed upon an alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated extraordinary community service to public and private institutions and organizations that work to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and/or society in general.

Distinguished Professional Achievement

This honor is bestowed upon an alumna/alumnus who has attained outstanding success and distinction in their chosen business, profession or life work, and has received some previous recognition from contemporaries.

Guidelines for Nominations

  • Nomination form may be submitted for individuals who have realized extraordinary success in either of the award categories above.
  • All nominees will be notified of their nomination status.  In order to be eligible to become an award recipient, the nominee must be available to receive the award in person at the November 7, 2009 event at Governors State University.  No awards will be given in absentia.

  • You will be notified if your nominee is selected as an award recipient. 

Submission of Nominations
