Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership

The Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership is made possible by a one million dollar matched-funds grant from the U. S. Department of Education.
This five-year grant is facilitating partnerships between Governors State University and the local high school districts for the purpose of improving teacher preparation of GSU's teacher candidates while providing opportunities for educational enhancements in the local high schools.
To date GSU is partnered with:
- Bloom Township, District 206
- Rich Township, District 227
- Crete-Monee, District 201-U
In addition to providing real world classroom teaching experiences - microteaching and mentoring - the TQE Grant provides scholarship monies for qualified applicants to one of GSU’s Secondary Education programs:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- English
- Math
Teacher Quality Enhancement Recruiting Grant
In addition to the TQE-P Grant, GSU is also the recipient of a three-year, 1.4 million dollar matched funds recruiting grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant period is October 1, 2007 - September 30, 2010.
This three-year grant offers $400,000 in scholarship monies for qualified applicants to GSU's Secondary Education programs in biology, chemistry, English, math.
The TQE-R Scholarships are being extended for the Winter and Fall 2011 terms only. These scholarships are offered to students who are already receiving TQE-R funds. We are not accepting any new applicants for these scholarships. Priority will be given to students entering their student teaching practicums for either the Spring 2011 or Fall 2011 terms; however, any student currently receiving TQE-R funding is eligible to apply and receive funds. Amount of the individual awards will be determined by the number of qualified applicants and available funds for each term.
Students who wish to be considered for these additional funds must submit the online application by the following dates:
December 1, 2010 for Winter 2011
June 15, 2011 for Fall 2011.
The goal of the grant is to recruit and train qualified teacher candidates into these program who will then teach in high need schools in Chicago and the suburbs.
