University Park, IL, April 3, 2007 - The Illinois Counseling Association won the coveted first place award in the large journal division at the recent American Counseling Association convention in Detroit, Michigan.
The Illinois Career Development Association (ICDA) sponsored the special issue of the state counseling journal which took the honors. The journal, Toward a Life Work: Courage, Creativity, and Collaboration, celebrated the 35th anniversary of the ICDA. It featured narratives from 12 authors on multicultural and developmental career counseling in school, community, and family settings. The journal was distributed to more than 1800 Illinois Counseling Association members. Julia Yang, ICDA President (2004-2006), served as the guest editor for the special issue. Yang, of Flossmoor, is a professor of counseling at Governors State University.
“I think the beauty of the project was how people worked together to make it happen,” said Yang.
Governors State University faculty who contributed to this issue include Dr. Cyrus Ellis, Dr. Diane Kjos (retired), Ms. Pat Robey, Dr. Albert Tuskenis, Dr. Shannon Dermer, Dr. Byron Waller, Dr. Catherine Sori, and Dr. Adam Zagelbaum.
