University Park, Illinois, March 12, 2007 – When the purpose of an organization is to offer opportunity and help dreams become reality, good people want to be involved.
The Governors State University Foundation’s mission is to assist in developing broader educational opportunities for students interested in earning a degree, gaining increased qualifications, and improving their lives and their family’s future.
This strong sense of purpose and the dedication are the facets that attracted three new members to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Joanne C. Krop of Frankfort, Jennifer Artis of Richton Park, and Beatrice Mensah Tayui of Flossmoor recently added their names to the distinguished and hardworking list of board members.
“The Board of Directors of the GSU Foundation determines policies, procedures, and priorities which govern the receipt, investment, and distribution of Foundation assets,” explained Dr. James Britt, Vice President of Advancement and CEO of the Governors State University Foundation. “These three individuals are especially well qualified to assume such important responsibilities. Each brings a superb record of professional achievement and community service as well as impeccable personal characteristics.”
Beatrice Mensah Tayui is currently president and CEO of Diamond International, Inc., and works closely with major U.S companies in the development and maintenance of successful business relationships with various African nations. Jennifer Artis has dedicated her career to establishing access to qualitative and comprehensive medical care for the working poor, the uninsured, and the indigent of Chicago and the south suburbs. She has worked tirelessly to establish equity in access to healthcare as founder and chair of the CrossRoads Coalition, chair of the Southland Health Careers Program, and by serving on the boards of several community health organizations. Artis is currently Director of Public Affairs for St. James Hospital and Health Centers, located in Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields.
“We are very fortunate to have these new members join our board. Each resides in the region and is deeply committed to the advancement of Chicago’s south suburbs,” said Britt. “I am delighted that citizens in our region are willing to serve the community and Governors State University in this way.”
