University Park, September 8, 2006 – The balance between public safety and individual civil rights has become a major issue in today’s world. Understanding the issues, articulating the problems, and analyzing the social, political, and economic concerns in achieving that balance is an important discussion.
As part of its Constitution Day observance, Governors State University will open the discussion with a community forum, “Challenges to the Constitution in the Post 9/11 Era,” on September 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Sherman Music Recital Hall.
Deborah Caldwell-Stone, Deputy Director of the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom, and an attorney representing the American Civil Liberties Union will comprise the panel. Dr. Larry Levinson, professor of history and political science at Governors State University will moderate the discussion.
This program is free and open to the public. Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park. For more information, call (708) 534-4578
