Governors State University to hold University-Wide Open House

University Park, September 12, 2006 – Governors State University will hold a University-Wide Open House on Saturday, October 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

General information about the university as well as information sessions on transfer requirements, financial aid, and specific undergraduate and graduate programs will be available. Prospective students and parents will also be able to meet with Governors State faculty, academic advisors, and financial aid counselors.

“We’ve created a solid agenda to help potential students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels understand the quality of GSU’s 47 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree  programs and to learn about the support services that are available to them,” said Randy Tumblin, Director of Admissions and Student Enrollment.

“Potential students will find out exactly what they’ll need to become a successful student here.”

In addition to one-on-one conversations with specific program advisors, special information sessions will also be offered on the Board of Governors degree program, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and the new Clinical Psychology master’s degree program. These break out sessions will offer more in depth information on the demands and rewards of participating in these programs.

According to Tumblin, “Governors State University continues to be both affordable and accessible for students in the region. In addition to being reasonably priced, we offer financial aid to both full and part time students. We also offer classes on campus, at the Kankakee Education Center in Kankakee, and at the Thompson Center in Chicago, as well as via the internet and media courses.”

Representatives from the university’s Office of Career Services will conduct a workshop at Open House to prepare students for employment and new career opportunities. The Open House will also feature tours of the university, refreshments, and a raffle drawing.

“We love to show off all that GSU has to offer and why we should be their first choice for higher education,” adds Tumblin.
