University Park, IL, February 5, 2010 – The Reverend Dr. Albert Sampson will present “The Freedom Movement” as part of the Distinguished Lecture series at Governors State University on February 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in Engbretson Hall.
Dr. Sampson is known for his leadership in the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. He was ordained at the Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Presidents at Morehouse College. He is also a Governors State University alumnus.
Currently, Dr. Sampson is the Senior Pastor of Fernwood United Methodist Church and Presiding Elder of the United Methodist South End Cooperative Parish in Chicago.
The Dr. Sampson’s presentation is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Student Life, GSU Alumni Association, and Student Senate.
