Governors State University to admit students displaced by Hurricane Katrina

University Park, September 1, 2005 - Governors State University announced today that it welcomes students whose educational plans have been disrupted by Hurricane Katrina. The deadline for registration for most programs is September 12. The $25 graduate application fee will be waived for affected students. There is no undergraduate application fee. Students will be admitted even if they are not able to provide transcripts in a timely manner.

In addition, out-of-state students affected by Katrina will be charged in-state tuition rates. Governors State has the lowest tuition of any public university in Illinois. Undergraduate tuition is guaranteed for 12 consecutive trimesters.

"We’ll work with students on an individual basis to help them continue their studies in an affordable and supporting environment," said Stuart Fagan, President of Governors State University.

Governors State is an upper division university. It only offers programs at the junior and senior level leading to a bachelor’s degree and graduate programs leading to a master’s degree. It offers a total of 47 degree programs.
