Governors State University appoints University Advancement staff

University Park, August 4, 2004 – Governors State University announced the appointment of two new staff members to the institution’s Office of University Advancement today. Newly appointed are Sandra M. Taggart, director of advancement services, and Terry Doran, director of regional resource development.

Governors State’s Office of University Advancement is the institution’s fundraising wing.

Taggart and Doran will report to Dr. James Britt, the university’s vice president for development. “Our job in University Advancement is to bring the university together with organizations, institutions, and philanthropists who believe strongly in the university’s mission and commitment to the region,” Britt said. He added that Taggart and Doran take the Governors State message out to the community to raise awareness about the institution and what it does. “Governors State has been a solid partner with the region for 35 years now,” Britt said. “Since its beginning, the university has brought its best resources to bear, meeting the region’s needs in healthcare, education, business, and community outreach.” Britt said the university is beginning a fresh campaign to build affiliations with corporate and individual donors who share the university’s vision.

Taggart will conduct research for University Advancement that will identify giving relationships that can be established through the office. Taggart brings 20 years of development experience to the position. Prior to her appointment at GSU, she was the development systems administrator for Roosevelt University. Her career in university development began at Loyola University, Chicago, where she served in several capacities, including assistant director of development services and system’s project coordinator.

Doran will establish a regional community business campaign for the university. He will raise private funding to meet university needs and create increasing visibility for GSU. Doran comes to GSU with a background in sales, marketing, and business development. He has worked for DeVry University, Xerox Corporation, and Jostens Inc.
