June 1, 2008, University Park, IL - The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University welcomes Light Opera Works of Evanston, which will present its annual summer theatre musical for kids in the Chicago Southland. In conjunction with park districts from Olympia Fields, Homewood/Flossmoor, Crete, Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Alsip, Oak Forest, and Matteson, The Center will host the workshop from June 23 through June 27 at Governors State University.

Light Opera Works is a resident, professional, not-for-profit theatre in Evanston, Illinois, founded in 1980. The company's mission is to produce and present Music Theater from a variety of world traditions. Works include American, British, Viennese and French operettas such as “Naughty Marietta”, “The Mikado”, “Die Fledermaus”, “The Duchess of Chicago and Beautiful Helen of Troy (La Belle Hélèn)”, and classic American musical theater such as “Lady in the Dark”, “The Most Happy Fella”, “The Golden Apple”, “One Touch of Venus” and “The Fantasticks.”
Light Opera Works has been producing the summer kid’s workshop musicals for over four years. General Manager of Light Opera Works, Bridget McDonough, says, “We are looking forward returning with our very successful music theater workshop for children to the south suburbs. I feel the workshop builds self confidence, and helps kids learn about the musical theatre. Most of all they have great time."
This will be the sixth summer that The Center has worked with the local park districts to provide a fun-filled and educational week of theater for southland kids. “Over the past eight years we have worked with the best theater companies from the Chicago area for the summer program,” said Dikelsky, Executive Director of The Center. “We look forward our fourth season with Light Opera Works to provide a great experience for our kids, their families, and patrons of the show.”
Now entering its 14th season, The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University is dedicated to presenting the finest in performing arts entertainment and education to Chicago’s greater metropolitan area and the southern suburbs. The Center features a 1,200 seat, state-of-the art facility for world class fine arts presentations and theatrical productions.
