For Immediate Release
University Park, IL, January 8, 2009 - From symphonies to rock concerts and from Bill Cosby to Shakespeare, The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University has been the leader in bringing quality entertainment to the south suburbs for
more than a decade. Now The Center itself is getting into the act with the founding of the Southland Area Theatre Ensemble (SLATE).
The new theatre group grew out of the extensive talents of Center staff, associates, and friends. “After 12 years, we’ve built an impressive network of stage production related individuals,” said Burt Dikelsky, Director of GSU’s Center for Performing Arts. “With all of the talent available in this area and the continued popularity of regional community theatre, we were in the perfect position to start the group.”
SLATE has already begun planning for its first production, “Into the Woods” by Steven Sondheim. Final audition, rehearsal, and production dates will be announced soon.
“We’re extremely pleased with the opportunity to become even more active in the arts,” said Jeanne McInerny, member of the Center’s Board of Directors. “There is so much talent in this area and the Center is a wonderful place to showcase regional community theatre.”
