University Park, September 20, 2007 – Governors State University recently honored members of its faculty and staff with awards acknowledging their excellence as educators and employees. The awards recognize the hard work and dedication of those who share the university’s commitment to its students and the community. Recipients are chosen based on student evaluations, department director and dean evaluations, and peer recommendations. The award publicly acknowledges the good work accomplished by the university’s faculty and staff throughout the year.
The Gerald C. Baysore Distinguished Service Award was given to Ron McDavid of Lynwood. McDavid is the Graphics Supervisor in university’s Department of Digital Learning and Media Design. The Baysore Award is presented annually to the GSU employee who exemplifies the qualities of absolute integrity, total competence, generous dedication, and unfailing civility.
The 2007 Excellence Award recipients from the College of Arts and Sciences include: Dr. Emmanuel Alozie of Monee, Javier Chavira of Joliet, Dr. Pamela Guimond of Crete, Dr. Bruce Wilson of Chicago, and Marilyn Yirku of Chicago.
From the College of Business and Public Administration, Excellence Award honorees include: Dr. Phyllis Anderson of Lombard, Kathleen Hamby of Richton Park, and Dr. Marsha Katz of Chicago.
From the College of Education, Excellence Award honorees include: Dr. Jon Carlson of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Dr. Jeannine Klomes of Orland Park, Dr. Kate Sori, of Highland, Indiana, Dr. Julia Yang of Flossmoor, and Dr. Adam Zagelbaum of Park Forest.
The 2007 Excellence Award recipients from the College of Health Professions include: Dr. Catherine Balthazar of Bolingbrook, James Golding of Lake Villa, Dr. Catherine Tymkow of Flossmoor, and Dr. Maristela Zell of Evanston.
The 2007 Excellence Award recipients from the University Library were Paul Blobaum of Park Forest, and Beth Hansen Shaw of Momence.
Faculty promotions were received by Dr. Emmanuel C. Alozie of Monee, Dr. John Swain of Oak Park, and Dr. Ann Vendrely of Flossmoor.
Tenure was granted to Paul Blobaum of Park Forest, Dr. Jessica Bonner of Flossmoor, Dr. Catherine Brady of Chicago, Dr. Dalsang Chung of Frankfort, Dr. Shannon Dermer of Park Forest, Dr. Cyrus Ellis of Steger, Dr. Susan Gaffney of Chicago, Dr. Ning (Linda) Lu of Chicago, Dr. Gary Lyon of Manteno, Dr. Marian Marion of Valparaiso, Indiana, Dr. Clare Tang of Naperville, Dr. Byron Waller of Manhattan, and Dr. Rebecca Wojcik, of Riverside.
