Dr. MacMullen's Health Disparities Research

Awareness of Asthma in Pregnancy

  • Project Director: Dr. Nancy MacMullen
  • UIC Research Mentor: Dr. Sharon Telleen, Research Associate Professor for the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy in the College for Urban Planning and Public Affairs

The project is a descriptive pilot study aiming to determine what pregnant women know about their asthma, their attitude toward the disease, and how successfully they collaborate with their health care provider in symptom management.

Dr. MacMullen, with guidance from UIC mentor Dr. Telleen, will focus her research on the area of asthma in pregnancy. Dr. MacMullen’s objective is to build on previous research in asthma and pregnancy to create intervention studies to improve maternal outcomes, particularly in those adversely affected by health care disparities.

UIC mentor Dr. Telleen will bring expertise in data collection and analysis to the project.
