Governors State University offers a variety of campus-based, hybrid and online courses. If you attend class on-campus, your class will likely include an Internet component as well. If you register for a hybrid course, some of your course meetings will occur online, and some in the classroom. GSU also offers many fully-online courses, which can be completed from the comfort of your own home computer.
GSU courses utilize the Blackboard Learning Management System. Every GSU course, whether it's an online, hybrid, or on-campus course, has a Blackboard shell. Even on-campus courses may use Blackboard for accessing materials, such as a syllabus.
Once you register for class, we offer a free Blackboard Orientation course with video tutorials, Blackboard email help and GSU Help Desk phone support.
Unsure About Taking An Online Course?
Online courses can be quite different from courses taken in a traditional on-ground classroom. Sometimes students are surprised to learn that they are unprepared for the online environment.
If you are unsure about taking an online course, please register for the 2 credit hour ONTL-5101: Introduction to Online Learning, which familiarizes students with the technology, communication tools, learning processes, and success strategies.
For more information on ONTL-5101: Introduction to Online Learning, please view the 2017 Course Schedule.
If you have never taken an online course, you will need an up-to-date computer, with a Windows or Mac operating system. Learn about the technology requirements.
