Incoming freshmen, current students, and transfer students can all apply to the GSU Honors Program.

On this page you will find the requirements for admission to the program, the application process by student category, and the requirements to graduate with honors.


Admission and Application Information

The Honors Admissions Council considers each applicant individually and comprehensively. Below you will find the basic requirements for admission.


Freshman Requirements

Completed Minimum 3.4 High School GPA.

Other criteria include diversity of background, motivation to succeed, creative abilities, leadership skills, and talent.


Upperclassmen Student Requirements

Upperclassmen Student Graduation Requirements


Advanced work within your program.

You may select one of the three options below:

  • contracting with an instructor in your program to do advanced work within an existing course
  •  completing a 4000 level course at the graduate level (5000 or 6000)
  •  taking a graduate course within their program

Evidence of this will be a letter from the course’s instructor stating you have fulfilled this requirement.


One advanced interdisciplinary Honors Seminar which is to be completed with a grade of B or higher.


An honors thesis/project/internship which is completed under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

Evidence of this will include a letter from your approved mentor.


A minimum of a 3.6 GPA at graduation for credit taken at GSU.
