GSU’s Exceptional Ed.D Degree Program


A GSU Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctorate of Education (Ed.D) degree will prepare you to work across diverse disciplines, collaborate effectively with others, and develop leadership expertise to meet the challenges of a changing world.  In our Ed.D degree program, you will learn the theories, principles, practices, and applications of effective leadership and how to incorporate research and data-driven decision making to that work. 

Governors State’s doctorate program is designed to enhance your qualifications and improve upon your skills as an effective leader in the field of education, nonprofit management, entrepreneurship or public safety.  Furthermore, in an effort to meet the needs of busy professionals, courses are offered online or in hybrid format (part online, part face-to-face).  


Ed.D Degree Program Prepares Advanced Leaders


Our Ed.D degree program consists of core courses in leadership, research, planning, communication, globalism and finance, as well as a choice of advanced study in one of the following four concentrations:  Superintendent (P-12), Higher Education Administration, Public Safety and Not-for-Profit/Social Entrepreneurship.  The requirements for the Ed.D degree program are a minimum of 60 credit hours with 33 credit hours taken from one of the four concentrations.

Students must register for a minimum of 9 graduate credits per semester and need to complete all coursework for the degree and capstone project within seven years after beginning the doctoral program For the complete requirements and further information regarding the program, please see our website or contact a program advisor.  

Governors State University’s doctoral program in Interdisciplinary Leadership is designed for experienced educators, counselors, social service providers, not-for-profit managers and public servants who want to make a difference in the world and take their career to the next level.  Furthermore the Interdisciplinary Leadership doctorate program is fully accredited by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission.
