Clinical Education Program

Students participate in clinical education experiences in diverse physical therapy settings for a total of 34 weeks.   The clinical education courses are Clinical Practicum (PHYT 7729), Clinical Internship I, II, III, and IV (PHYT 8801, 8803, 9805, 9807).  Clinical Practicum occurs at the end of the first year of study and serves to integrate the foundational sciences with the patient management courses.  Clinical Internships I and II occur in sequence during the summer and fall of the second year after the student has completed all patient management courses and most of the clinical science courses.

In spring of the third year, students complete Clinical Internships III and IV after all academic courses. Students are required to complete one inpatient experience, one outpatient experience,  one experience that focuses primarily on patients with musculoskeletal conditions,  and one experience that focuses primarily on patients with neurological disorders.  Additionally, during Clinical Internships I and II, students gather data from a patient/client, with their informed consent, for a case report.
